  1. Nikki Darling, DMC: What changing trends do you see coming in 2018?
Sarah Williams, Furniture Mall of Kansas: You know people are serious about wanting a design trend in their lives when it enters the furniture market. For us, that trend has been the reappearance of patterns in fabrics and materials. I think it’s a bold and wonderful new way forward and will give us lots of design options when working with guests for their homes.
When it comes to color, I’ve been pleased
to see lots of rich jewel tones. Deep hunter greens in paints and in fabrics. I love the way that color looks in velvet. Teal has always

3. ND: How will color and pattern bene t the consumer and designer?
SW: I think this trend provides more options for people nancially and design- wise. We’ve had too much of the same thing, so we need to keep things interesting and go in a di erent direction.
4. ND: Where do you get your trend information?
SW: When I’m at market, I’m looking for things that I’m seeing consistently across showrooms. That gives me a story that tells me there’s something in the air and this
is what other people are seeing as they do their market research.
PEOPLE LOVE COLOR. THEY WANT TO SURROUND
THEMSELVES WITH COLORS THAT MAKE THEM FEEL
HAPPY, CALM, SERENE OR EXCITED AND ENERGETIC.

been a popular color, and it’s not going anywhere. These colors make for some delicious designs in fabric, rugs, wall art— all those wonderful things we like to use to accent our homes.
2. ND: Why do you think consumers are embracing new color palettes?
SW: People love color. They want to surround themselves with colors that make them
feel happy, calm, serene or excited and energetic. We’ve always done well with lots of rich color stories, but I’m seeing so many more options in the marketplace for us to provide for our guests.
5. ND: How are your clients customizing new color and pattern in their homes? SW: The most direct route that I see is through colors and patterns within rugs. Rug manufacturers are doing incredible things. They provide a great price point and allow people to take a bold rug and pair it with simpler furniture pieces.
6. ND: Where in Dallas Market Center can designers nd products that represent this trend?
SW: I de nitely have some tried and true resources at Dallas Market Center such as Uttermost, Sphynx, Feizy, Uma Enterprises and AB Home.
