  BTY POORMINA APTE
hirty-three years ago the Coulters, Kimberly and husband Jamie, had a vision for a French and English antiques shop in Wichita, KS, one that would be appointed with ne crystal and china. Since then, The
Plaid Gira e has evolved into a destination for shoppers near and far with its eclectic displays and stunning array of ne jewelry, home decor and orals, in addition to tabletop and china.
The Plaid Gira e is especially popular for bridal gift registry, which forms a signi cant portion of business. What’s the secret? Excellent customer service, said Nancy Taylor, manager. “We do beautiful gift wrap, we do free local delivery, we work with our brides one-on-one and have a huge selection of china and pottery. When they have a shower, we will go out and set up their table settings whether it’s at a country club or someone’s home.”
That kind of service has not gone unnoticed; The Plaid Gira e
has an extremely loyal clientele. The store edits its eclectic mix of merchandise, helped in large part by the markets at Dallas Market Center. “They’re so fresh and fun and have some really great lines. It’s constantly changing too, so you can nd great new lines,” Taylor said of the Dallas retail institution.

Among the “great lines” The Plaid Gira e has discovered at Dallas Market: Annieglass, Lafco, Juliska, Anna Weatherley and Haviland. “We found Michael Aram when he was rst starting out there; it was great,” said owner Kimberly Coulter, “Plus at Dallas Market Center, they have that great Dallas hospitality.”
It’s no wonder that Taylor and Coulter recognize hospitality when they see it. It’s after all one of the cornerstones that they have built The Plaid Gira e’s thriving business on for more than three decades.
