HELPING HURRICANE VICTIMS REBUILD
BY NIKKI DARLING
I n response to the natural disasters along the Gulf Coast and in the Caribbean, Dallas Market Center launched DMC Cares in September, a comprehensive assistance e ort for its customers and the broader community impacted by the
storms. DMC is working toward collecting $1 million in support via nancial and product donations.
In response to Hurricane Harvey’s impact on the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast, Dallas Market Center implemented an immediate action plan--Phase One--of DMC Cares. During this phase, DMC collected personal care items including toiletries, baby products and clothing. Employees, exhibitors and visitors to DMC were able to donate goods at a collection station in the World Trade Center Atrium. Phase One initially produced 16 pallets of donated products, which a charitable network delivered to the a ected Gulf Coast in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
Soon after, Dallas Market Center launched a large-scale clothing drive to gather apparel of all types and sizes from manufacturers. New and unused men’s, women’s and children’s clothing was collected from showrooms. The Dallas-based organization Attitudes & Attire helped with donations and sorting. These items were then distributed again to the Gulf Coast.
Phase Two, launched in October, addresses the longer-term needs
of communities impacted by the storms. Houston Furniture Bank,
an independent 501 (c) (3) non-pro t organization, was designated as a key bene ciary of Dallas Market Center’s fundraising and product donations. Houston Furniture Bank is dedicated to providing families with basic furniture including mattresses, beds, tables, chairs, sofas and dressers during this time of rebuilding.
“As the Gulf Cost moves from recovery to rebuilding, we are proudly adding support for the Houston Furniture Bank,” said Cindy Morris, president and CEO of Dallas Market Center. “We call upon the industry to unite and support their e orts”.
Dallas Market Center also launched Operation ReStore, a customer assistance program designed to help retailers and reps in the region that have been a ected by the storms. These customers are eligible for a special travel package to help them attend trade events at Dallas Market Center.
Dallas Market proudly continues its commitment to neighbors and customers during this time of need. For more information on DMC Cares or to get involved please visit dallasmarketcenter.com/ dmccares or email dmccares@dallasmarketcenter.com.
