A style guide, an inspirational tome, and a how-to on creating one’s home,” is how Rizzoli, publisher of e House at Pinterest Built, refers to Diane Keaton’s new book. For Keaton, “this book is an example made from
the gifts of other people’s addictive yearnings for the perfect home, the perfect landscape and the perfect interior. It illustrates my choices of your choices,” she said.
Ahead of her presentation January’s Total Home & Gift Market, we had the opportunity to ask Diane Keaton a few questions about her passion for home design and Pinterest, and how pairing the two led to her current home in Brentwood, CA, and e House at Pinterest Built.
Diane Falvey: What sparked your passion for
renovating homes and interior design?
Diane Keaton: Oh design has always been my passion. I learned from my mom actually. She would take me to Goodwill and we would hunt for treasures. My dad was a civil engineer and he would take me to open houses and my taste evolved from there.
DF: What home design styles have you gravitated toward and why? How has your design style evolved?
DK: I am an Angelino so I love Spanish architecture and I’ve done several Spanish style homes (which I love). This new house is a departure from that. My current home has a new direction of barn/farm meets industrial living. Vast spaces...lots of light...
and the repetition of colors such as grey, white and black. De nitely not Spanish.
DF: When did you become interested in Pinterest and how did it change your approach to home design?
DK: Nancy Meyers is the one who is responsible. She showed
me how to navigate through the millions of images and the
rest is history. When designing my current home, it became my inspiration and my everything. I could spend hours on my iPad searching imagery. It is the world of ideas that never sleeps! [Editor’s Note: Nancy Meyers is writer, director and producer of Keaton’s 2003 hit movie, Something’s Gotta Give.]
I THINK WE ALL KNOW WHAT WE INDIVIDUALLY LIKE BUT PINTEREST HELPS CATEGORIZE IT FOR US. IT IS TRULY AMAZING.
